Effect of pH
TH-0400 is active over a wide pH range, depending on the application conditions. The optimal pH is 5.4 to 6.4.
Effect of Temperature
Optimum temperature of TH-0400 for interval liquefaction is above 77°C. It liquefies starch substrates promptly at 83 to 90°C and demonstrates exceptional thermal stability at 100 °C. The exact temperature optimum depends on actual processing conditions, such as pH, concentration of substrate and time.
Concentration of Calcium
The presence of calcium increases the thermal stability of this enzyme. It requires a very low calcium concentration, i.e. 5 to 20 ppm will be sufficient to ensure its thermal stability.
Inhibitors
Copper, titanium, and cobalt ions are moderate inhibitors for TH-0400, whereas aluminum, lead and zinc ions act as strong inhibitors.
Benefits
Use of TH-0400 in desizing of textiles can ensure the following benefits:
1) Enable desizing and colour-fixing at the same bath, thus shorten process flow and improve productivity
2) Enhanced capillary tube effect of fabrics
3) Improved working conditions for operators
4) Less dosage level and reduced processing costs
In industries where starch processing demands speed, consistency, and energy efficiency, thermostable alpha amylase emerges as a critical biocatalyst. This robust enzyme thrives at elevated temperatures, typically between 90°C and 110°C, and maintains optimal activity even in acidic or alkaline environments (pH 5.0–7.5). Its ability to rapidly hydrolyze starch molecules into dextrins and oligosaccharides makes it indispensable for sectors like biofuels, food production, textiles, and brewing.
Engineered for extreme conditions, this enzyme retains over 90% of its activity after prolonged exposure to heat, eliminating the need for frequent re-dosing in continuous industrial processes. With a high substrate affinity, it achieves near-complete liquefaction of starch slurries at concentrations up to 40%, significantly reducing viscosity within minutes. This translates to faster processing times, lower energy consumption, and improved yield—key advantages for large-scale operations.
In bioethanol production, thermostable alpha amylase maximizes fermentable sugar output from corn, wheat, or cassava, boosting ethanol yields by up to 15% compared to conventional methods. The food industry relies on it for producing syrups, sweeteners, and modified starches, where its precise action ensures uniform product quality without unwanted byproducts. Textile manufacturers leverage its desizing capabilities to remove starch-based coatings from fabrics efficiently, while breweries use it to enhance wort clarity and fermentation efficiency.
